Set Your Calendar to Open on a Specific Date

Teamup’s default start date, or date which the calendar automatically shows when opened, is the current date. Did you know you can change this default setting? You can have your calendar open on a past date, a future date, or a specific event date as needed. Here’s how.

How to set a specific start date

The calendar administrator can change the default start date in Settings > Date & Time. You can choose to have your calendar open a certain number of days in the past or future. Or you can select a specific date.

  1. Open Teamup in a browser.
  2. Go to Settings > Date & Time.
  3. Scroll to the Start Date section.
  4. Choose Specific Date from the menu.
  5. Choose the date you want from the pop-up calendar.

When to use a specific start date

When people are managing a schedule for the current day or week, or making plans for the near future, having your calendar open on the current day is usually the appropriate choice. This is the most common need for most calendar users, and it’s the default setting for Teamup calendars.

In some scenarios, however, it’s better to have the calendar open at a specific start date, not the current day:

  • A conference calendar can open on the first day of the conference so viewers instantly see the relevant agenda and timeline.
  • A booking calendar can open on the next available booking date range (e.g. 7 days in the future) to prevent confusion and discourage out-of-range bookings.
  • A project calendar can open on the project kickoff, first day of current phase, or date of the last achieved milestone to provide a project-level overview and keep the focus on the relevant timeline.
  • A special events calendar can open on the date of the last big event or on a date with many events to show viewers a good example of the events being shared.

If your calendar is embedded into a website, it’s also possible to specify a link parameter date=yyyy-mm-dd to set the start date for the embedded calendar. See this article for more details.
