Many groups use Facebook for organizing and communication. They often use a separate calendar, like Teamup, for planning and scheduling. Here are some tips for sharing your group calendar on Facebook, whether with members or the public.
Point members to the calendar
A hiking club would use a calendar for upcoming hikes and meetups. They might include interesting local events, too, like park openings or volunteer opportunities. Since outdoor events depend on the weather, members need real-time updates. You can create a secure calendar link and share it on the group page:
- Put a calendar link in the group description: The group description is shown in the About section of the group’s page. It’s often the first thing new members check, and it’s easy for anyone to find when they want to open the calendar.
- Pin a post with the calendar link: Members frequently check the group page feed for reminders and news. You can pin a post to the top of the page, where it stays in the Featured section and doesn’t get buried by other posts. This is especially helpful in a busy group with lots of posts and discussions.
- Add a “rule” about using the calendar: You can create group rules and pin them to the Featured section. One rule could related to calendar use, instructing members to get event updates from the calendar rather than relying on the Facebook feed. You can put a calendar link with the rule.
Share the calendar link often
A book club can use its calendar to share book picks, monthly reading schedules, meeting dates, and community events like author signings or bookstore gatherings. To ensure members always have this information:
- Include a link to the calendar with every post: Whenever you post updates or event announcements, include the calendar link at the end. For example: “Don’t forget to check our calendar for all upcoming events: www.teamup.com/yourlink.”
- Instruct group members to sign up on the calendar: You can have members sign up on the calendar rather than the Facebook page. This centralizes information and prevents confusion. Just add a reminder and a link to the calendar when you promote upcoming events.
Share individual events from the calendar

Busy groups like sports teams or club leagues can make great use of calendar sharing. For example, they might post practice schedules, game dates, and tournaments. They can share the calendar link so people can see the whole schedule, but they might also want to promote specific events, like tournaments, matches, and registration deadlines:
- Share the event page with the group: Teamup lets you automatically create an event page for any event on the calendar. Grab the link and share it in a Facebook post to promote the event and lead people right back to all the event details.
- Remind members to get updates from the calendar: If you create a Facebook event for promotion purposes, include a calendar link and/or an event page link and reminder people that any changes or new details are added to the calendar first, so that’s where they should go for updates.
Share the group calendar publicly
If your group’s activities extend beyond members—like hobbyists, photographers, or tabletop RPG players sharing workshops or meetups—you might want to promote your calendar publicly:
- Post the calendar link on your timeline: Share the calendar link or specific event pages in a post on your personal Facebook timeline.
- Send the link in a message: If you reach out to connections with a personal invitation, include a link to the event page or calendar so they can follow up on details and see any updates.
Make sure you always use a secure link when sharing the calendar. You can use a secure link to embed the calendar in a group website, too. Teamup makes it easy to plan and coordinate group events.
